But I'd have accepted an apology, and there was none.Casetify knows how important it is to have a case that is both fun and tough. I'd have liked something like extra time added to my subscription (even a week would have been fine), or offering a partial refund, or a discount when I went to renew for another year. Honestly, the part that bothers me the most is that there isn't even a "sorry" in the entire conversation. Eventually had to go nuclear and just erase all that data so I could start using the service I paid for again. So once I had the replacement drive installed I tried to inherit the backup state again. But really that's just explaining why I let a system stay down for almost a month in the first place. Since it was under warranty I was being stubborn and wanted it replaced even though getting one off the shelf would have only been, like, $60. I should mention it took Western Digital a while to replace my dead SSD as well. I stopped trying to inherit the backup at this point because screw trying to do anything when you're booting from that crappy drive. I contacted Backblaze support for the first time at that point to try to do anything I could to stop them from getting rid of my data, which is when I found out that my data was safe for 5 more months at least. This is when I started getting the equine errors. Fun fact: PS4 hard drives should never be used for any purpose, holy shit that was the worst experience. However, since my system wasn't phoning home you'd think that email wouldn't trigger, right?Īnyhow, I frantically got my system up and limping with an old PS4 hard drive as the main boot drive so I could avoid that purge. Apparently they only do this if a single drive is removed while the computer is still phoning home, whereas you get 6 months before your data is purged if the computer is down hard. This assumption was inaccurate, but the email was very poorly worded. So first they started sending me emails saying they would delete all my data if I didn't see my drives after 30 days, triggering a panic to reinstall. The only way to continue using the service I paid for was to delete my backups, effectively negating 6 months of using the service. Their tech support could not solve the problem. Their software failed to inherit the backup state. TL DR: They sent confusing emails making it sound like they were about to delete all my backups. As if I'd even be able to do that if another drive fails before my subscription expires anyway. Nothing I have is unrecoverable, I just liked the convenience of having a backup to restore from. I'm honestly not sure if I'll renew even if there are no alternatives. Now, I don't know about you guys, but I think that's a pretty terrible thing for a cloud backup service to ask someone to do. After going through all the troubleshooting steps unsuccessfully, I had one option available to me: Delete everything (>40TB) I had backed up to Backblaze and start over from scratch. Backblaze did have a 2 month old backup of the drive, so at least I was able to recover that much. After uploading data for 6 straight months (and only being about half done at that.), I suffered a drive failure on my OS drive. I've got a bad taste left in my mouth from my recent experience with contacting their support. Are there any other decent unlimited backup options left out there? Because I no longer trust the company to keep my data safe, I am looking into my options.
